New You In Ten
Days
Years ago a cartoonist called Donald McGill specialized in
producing cartoon post cards featuring grossly overweight fat ladies and small hen pecked husbands complete with
a risqué tagline. How we all laughed at their collective misfortunes!
However, obesity is no longer a laughing matter. In fact it is well beyond a joke as in
the United Kingdom almost
25% of all adults are deemed to be obese. Added to this, over 60% of the adult population are overweight which means that there is trouble looming
in the not too distant future.
The
rest of the population can look forward to a higher life expectancy as these people in the ideal weight
category avoid the weight associated problems of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and breathlessness. And
you can join them and become a new you in ten days.
It’s time to do some weights and measures and check where you stand in the weight stakes.
Obesity is usually measured through BMI – Body Mass Index which is a ratio of weight to height. A BMI of
around 20-25 is perfectly acceptable although if you are 25-30 you are quite definitely clinically
overweight. On the other hand, should your BMI be over 30 then you
are at risk as you are medically defined as obese and in dire need of becoming a new you in ten
days.
However, a good rule-of-thumb indicator is your waist measurement. For instance a male adult
with a waist measurement in excess of 40 inches and a woman with a waist measurement of around 35 inches are in
danger. People in this group are at a greater risk of diabetes and heart disease unless they take some
action to reduce their weight as a matter of urgency.
Nevertheless, all is not lost because it is never too late to take some drastic action if
you have the will power to succeed. The good news is that literally everyone can lose weight if the will is
there. Nevertheless, there is no point in losing weight through a crash diet and then gradually putting it
back on little by little. The ultimate end is that within only two or three years you are back where you
started. So, really, you should not be asking the question, “how can I lose weight fast” even if you have a
need to lose weight.
Some fairly serious life changes need to be considered although they are not necessarily
overly drastic. Just a few small changes will have an overall beneficial effect so here are a few tips on how
to lose weight.
One
of the main problems for some folk is that they generally eat a healthy diet but eat too much at most meals.
There seems to be an uncontrollable urge to completely fill a dinner plate with food and, even though the
meal is healthy, too much is still too much! One way round this is to use smaller plates for all
meals.
Nonetheless, smaller meals whilst having some effect, will not necessarily achieve the
desired weight. By far the biggest contributor to getting down to a target weight is exercise which beats any
of the quick weight loss diets.
Just a 30 minute brisk walk five times a week will work wonders and lose weight easy. Do
this for two weeks and you will have a new you in ten days. In this way you will burn calories as well
as lessening the chance of heart related illness and arthritis; and you will be fitter as well as losing
weight. Sounds like a good deal all round and is vastly superior to a rapid weight loss
diet.
